Amalia is named after Amalia van Solms and the crown prinses Amalia van Oranje Nassau, both members of the Royal Dutch Family.
In the past, Amalia was used by fishermen, farmers, and for small scale transport of goods and people. With its draft of only 0.25m, the tjotter is a quick sailing ship even in the shallowest of waters.
Nowadays the tjotter is used mainly as a pleasure craft. In summer we come together and race each other on the many lakes of Friesland. Admiral sailing, which is sailing in formation, is always a lot of fun.

Amalia was built between 1900 and 1920 on the dockyard of Lantinga in IJlst.
