Ran Tan II was launched in 2006 for John Meade of Wellington. Ran Tan competed in most of the local and coastal races out of Wellington, usually being first on line. Ran Tan also travelled frequently to Auckland competing in the local and coastal races such as the Auckland to Russell and Auckland to Tauranga races. Ran Tans forte is offshore racing where the boat can utilise the hull form and canting keel to stack up great daily runs. Whangarei to Port Vila was a highlight, followed by a spell in Australia competing at the Hamilton Island Regatta. Several Auckland to Fiji races, an Around NZ fully crewed race and around again in a Two Handed race shows the versatility of the design.
Purchased by Brian Petersen in 2015 saw Ran Tan II again on the race track. Harbour, regatta, coastal and offshore races have been and are on the schedule. Auckland to Fiji in 2016, then across to Noumea for the Groupama Race around New Caledonia in September of that year. This tour was successfully completed and Ran Tan II arrived back in NZ early October 2016 to continue racing out of Auckland.
Ran Tan II completed the Round North Island Two handed Race in March 2017, taking line honours in all four legs. Ran Tan II won the 2017 Auckland Jack Tar Regatta on PHRF and the RNZYS Winter Series on PHRF.
Ran Tan II sailed across to Sydney to take part in the 2017 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race. An almost perfect weather window for Ran Tan enabled a very fast passage to Hobart, finishing in 30 minutes less than two days. 16th on line, after losing a couple of spots in a mad dash up the Derwent River at up to 25 knots.
On return to Auckland Ran Tan was placed second on PHRF in the Jack Tar Regatta - somewhat shortened by no wind on day two.
Ran Tan II then competed in the RAYC Auckland to Noumea Race, after a couple of tough days of weather, crossing the line in Noumea first. Another lap around New Caledonia in the Groupama Race with an interesting mix of weather (its never like this normally!), coming second. Then back to Auckland.
