Challenge is back and she is in exceptional condition entering her third Sydney-Hobart. A tried and tested ocean racing yacht, who also loves to compete in the highly competitive world of one-design racing, this 38 foot monohull performs best uphill in tough conditions. Challenge loves light winds and does really well when weather suits the smaller boats.
A well managed cadre of amateur local and international ocean crew embody the spirit of Hobart grass roots sailors. The 2017 team are determined to give their all to improve on last years respectable Sydney-Hobart result.
Owned and raced by Chris Mrakas, Challenges second owner, who proudly continues the tradition of veteran Victorian yachtsman Lou Abrahams who built, owned and raced her in 2006 in her maiden Hobart. This was Lous 43rd and last Hobart race aged 79. It was a memorable race for Lou 2 times winner of the Hobart where she came 3rd IRC and 1st 2006 IRC Div D.
She stands out from her Sydney 38 rivals for coming the closest 38 to winning the Hobart in this 2006 race.
