Defiance is the first Australian designed and built 8 metre, built to the International 8 metre rule by Ernest Digby in Williamstown, Melboune in 1935. A champion boat of its day, uniquely raced buy its owner/builder for a decade before being sold to race on Sydney Harbour and offshore to Montague and Lion Islands, Jervis Bay and in a remarkable five Sydney to Hobarts, again a first for an 8 metre. Third across the line and fourth on handicap in 1946. Defiance was used a cruiser before being restored by Colin Beashel to return as a racer winning RSYS Squadron Cruise 2014, Australia Day 2015 and 2018, Combined Club Winter Series 2017, Gaffers Day metre division 2017, 2nd in the Great Veteran's Race 2017 and numerous Squadron twilights 2016/17.
